Hometown Celebration

Keystone residents lamenting the demise of Holy Terror Days will be happy to learn there is a new event launching this year that will capture the spirit of the popular long-running annual celebration. The inaugural Keystone Hometown Celebration will take place on Saturday, September 19 from 10 AM to dusk and promises to offer fun for the entire family, rain or shine.

Holy Terror Days was an annual community event dating back to 1899. It began as an Independence Day celebration but moved to September as its focus grew to include Keystone history. The event was last held in 2017, but city leaders wanted to bring it back, especially in a year when activities have been limited due to COVID-19. Seizing the opportunity for a fresh start, the event has been rebranded to better reflect the overall focus on the community. The tagline—"Small Town, Big Spirit"—sums this up perfectly.

The Keystone Hometown Celebration welcomes locals and visitors alike. Guests will make their way through town for an old-time play-along featuring a carnival, community BBQ, entertainment, historical reenactments, and a costume contest (participants will dress up in their best 1890s garb). The complete schedule includes:

  • Farmer's Market/Vendor's Fair - Watson Park (10:00 a.m.)
  • Community Rummage Sale - Across the street from the Rock Shop (10:00 a.m.)
  • 1880 Train Shootout - 1880 Train Station (11:00 a.m.)
  • Pictures with Chug from 1880 Train (12:00 p.m.)
  • Historical Costume Competition – Big Thunder Gold Mine (1:00 p.m.)
  • Captain Jack Crawford (a/k/a "The Poet Scout") – Big Thunder Gold Mine (2:00 p.m.)
  • Family Games & Activities & Carnival – Bridge to Nowhere (3:00 p.m.)
  • Softball Game - Softball fields behind the Community Center (4:00 p.m.)
  • Community BBQ & Live music from Tiffany Johnson – Watson Park (5:00 p.m.)

Organizers expect the Keystone Hometown Celebration to become an annual event just like its predecessor and hope to add even more activities in 2021.
