Fort Hays Chuckwagon

Fort Hays Turn of the Century Old West Town has so much to offer! It's family fun and family run!

Start with our daily “All-you-can-eat” Cowboy Pancakes for just 99 cents. Then, look out towards Mount Rushmore as you head toward the Dances With Wolves film set for a free self-guided tour. Browse the boardwalk at Fort Hays where you’ll catch our craftsmen making tin plates, ropes (yes, even a toilet paper rope), handmade items in the blacksmith shop, and a unique penny press that used to press gold plates for the Black Hills Gold company. Don’t forget to take back gifts from our lovely gift shop where you’ll find unique items, some locally made. We also house the newest rollercoaster in Rapid City called the Buffalo Hunt Coaster. It is an interactive type chair lift coaster and if that’s not enough shooting at targets, we have the Hen House Hoe down shooting gallery out in the Livery. In the evening, you can come be entertained by the Fort Hays Wranglers with their Branson-style music variety show and eat off of those tin plates that were made right here on property. There is something for everyone of all ages!
