Xanterra: Fueling your Visit to Mount Rushmore

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a must-see attraction in Keystone that brings people from around the world. There really is no experience quite like staring up at the 60-foot-tall faces of four revered US presidents. While you’re enjoying the grounds and learning about the history of the monument, you’ll surely stop in for souvenirs or lunch, and there’s one business that has you covered: Xanterra.

Xanterra is the name behind hospitality at some of our nation’s most beloved parks, including the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park. They offer dining, shopping, experiences and more. At Mount Rushmore National Memorial they operate both the gift shop and Carver’s Cafe.

A visit to Mount Rushmore can be as short as a few minutes to snap a picture, or you can spend most of a day hiking the trails and enjoying the exhibits. If you do the latter — which we highly recommend you make time for — you’re likely to work up quite the appetite. Luckily the Carver’s Cafe is on site. From tasty snacks to lunch options that will please a crowd, you’ll find exactly what you need to keep hunger at bay. The cafe also has impressive floor-to-ceiling windows with a commanding view of the presidents you can enjoy while you eat.

Beyond the amenities they offer, Xanterra is also an eco-conscious brand that makes every effort to enhance the beauty of their properties while reducing their environmental impact. In 2017 they remodeled the gift shop at Mount Rushmore to include sustainable features, including locally sourced trees used in finishings and furniture throughout. All lighting in the shop is LED and uses advanced control systems that allow for high-quality lighting with maximum efficiency.

They are also committed to sourcing as many products as possible from American craftsmen and industries, and you will find a “Made in the USA” section in the gift shop. One product you’ll find at Carver’s Cafe has American roots all the way back to our country’s founding: Thomas Jefferson’s ice cream! This tasty treat is made from the same recipe President Jefferson brought home from his time in France, and is arguably some of the best you’ll find anywhere.

Keystone is known as the home of Mount Rushmore, and whether it’s your first time to the memorial or an annual tradition, Xanterra is there to make sure your visit is unforgettable. Grab a snack at the Carvers Cafe and find the perfect souvenir at the gift shop to remind you of your family’s visit to our nation’s shrine of democracy.
