K Bar S: Close to Fun, Enclosed in Nature

For rustic charm meets modern comfort, consider staying at the K Bar S Lodge. While the property is only open from mid-April through the end of October, part of its appeal is its walkability to local attractions—a hobby best explored during the fairer months of the year. From the front door of the lobby, your feet are less than a mile from all the top attractions downtown Keystone has to offer. If that’s not enough to quench your thirst for adventure, a quick jaunt in the car will expand your reach to some of the most popular destinations in the Black Hills—including Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, and Crazy Horse.

The K Bar S is a popular wedding destination in the Black Hills, and for good reason. While not far from Keystone, the hotel is isolated enough that guests feel secluded in the serene wilderness. The K Bar S boasts a beautiful lawn in the center of the property, flanked by the main lodge and guest rooms, pristine trees, and granite peaks of the Black Hills. The on-site coffee shop lets you start your day with a locally sourced beverage while you wave to George Washington on Mount Rushmore, just visible over the pines.

Inside the lodge, guests are greeted by a log cabin-esque lobby, with vaulted ceilings, chandeliers, and a floor-to-ceiling slate fireplace. Rooms are cozy and well-appointed, from efficient, single queen rooms, up through king rooms complete with a hot tub and views of Mount Rushmore. Daily breakfast is included with the nightly rate, with a coffee shop on the premises for those who want something more than the standard drip. From Memorial Day until Labor Day, The Pub serves an enticing menu of carefully crafted pub fare, including a full bar offering many local brews and wines.

Close enough to the hustle of Keystone, yet far enough to stay peaceful and relaxing, the K Bar S Lodge is the best of both worlds. Consider letting them serve as your base camp for exploring the beautiful Black Hills; they won’t let you down.
