About Hillside Country Cabins
Hillside Country Cabins, formally known as the “Deer Huts,” has been here since 1931.
One of the longest cabin rental in the Black Hills. It has been known for the area for lots of deer, antelope herds, and mountain lions. In 1931, some of 1929 original cabins were moved here from a Black Hills work camp. When some of the cabins were brought down, they were built on a shale rock foundation, that still holds up the original cabins today. The cabins were also built with real logs. They all have been updated since then. There are 18 cabins total, from small cabins, log homes or the Silver Mountain Executive Lodge to choose from. There are different sizes in which they fit from 2 to 12 people. All cabins are different so be sure to look at them all.
In 1986, there was a huge forest fire that jumped over the hill and amazingly it did not destroy this property. You can see on the hills where the huge blaze went through.
In 2006, there was a fire that destroyed the front house and office. The office was rebuilt in the same area it was originally built. The larger Real Log Cabin homes #7-8-9-10 were built around the 1997-time frame, and around 2007-08 the Silver Mountain Lodge (#18) was built. Still investigating the long history of this property and the old abstracts that date back to the 1800s. As far as we know, these are some of the oldest cabins and camping grounds in this area still in operation. There is so much history in this place.
We have built a walkabout trail around the back of the property. There are great rock formations in the back area of the property and hills around us.
We’ve have done TONS and TONS of cabin improvements, updates, new shingles 2017 and landscaping to this place since we purchased it going on the 6th summer this year. The pride of ownership shows and we want all to come and enjoy it here at our cabins in the Black Hills.
We are located in the center of the hills. Our location is easy to find a plus, the short distances for the local activities. Of course, there is always a lot of beautiful scenic driving here in the Black Hills.
