The Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month of 1918. It’s the day that World War I came to an end. The following year, Americans celebrated Armistice Day on November 11.
It became an annual holiday, and in 1954 it was named Veterans Day, a national holiday to honor those who served in the Armed Forces.
Did you know that Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt all served in the military? Washington led the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Jefferson was a colonel in the Virginia Militia, Lincoln was a captain in the Illinois Militia and Roosevelt was a colonel in the U.S. Army Volunteers.
Friday’s weather is supposed to be nice. It would be a good day to visit Mount Rushmore and honor all our veterans.
