When you visit Keystone, there’s likely a few things that drew you here: Mount Rushmore, the beautiful Black Hills, or the Wild West. Maybe it’s a combination, or even all of them, but one thing’s for sure, you can find the best of all three here. When it comes to the Wild West, nothing tops riding a horse through our beautiful ponderosas and rugged landscape. Rockin’ R Trail Rides is just the place to do exactly that, and they’re just minutes away from Keystone.
Rockin’ R Trail Rides is a family affair, and owners Randy and Peggy are excited to take you out on a unique tour of the Black Hills. They have over 40 years of experience in the trail ride industry between the two of them, so you know you’ll be in excellent hands. All the trail rides they lead are conducted in the Black Hills National Forest under permit from the US Forest Service. Rockin’ R Trail Rides is located in Heritage Village just down the road from Crazy Horse Memorial, so you’ll have spectacular views of the memorial on every ride you take.
When you’re ready to meet your trusty steed and hit the trail, Rockin’ R Trail Rides has something for everyone. From one-hour rides to half-day excursions, every rider over the age of 6 will find something that suits their fancy. Have a younger buckaroo in your family? Kids under 6 can’t do a full ride, but they can don a cowboy hat and chaps and go for a hand-led pony ride around the corral. It’s the perfect way to introduce them to horses and the Wild West, and who knows? We bet you’ll have so much fun in Keystone you’ll come back year after year, so your young cowboys and cowgirls will get to do the full trail someday.
The Black Hills are known for being a bit on the rugged side, which we owe to our Wild West history in the not-too-distant past. When you visit us in Keystone, you’ll have the chance to go underground in our mines, walk up and down our historic boardwalk, and if you head over to Rockin’ R Trail Rides, you’ll get to see the Black Hills like the first settlers to the area did. Beautiful, untamed wilderness from the back of a horse awaits you — don’t miss out!
